Judaic Studies Principal, Grades 1-8

Mrs. Tammy Masar has worked extensively in chinuch for over 20 years. She has experience across grades and around the globe, having taught both elementary and high school in Israel, Chile, and the United States.  Educated at Michlalah, where she obtained a dual B. Ed in English literature and Tanach, and later in Machon Lander in Israel where she studied for her MA in Jewish History, Mrs. Masar comes to Shulamith from Magen David Yeshiva, where she designed and directed their innovative Hebrew Language program in grades 1-8. Mrs. Masar served as a consultant for Yeshiva of Central Queens, developing a Hebrew curriculum and providing guidance and professional development for teachers. Before that, Mrs. Masar honed her teaching skills at Ramaz Lower School, where she also participated in a school-wide curriculum mapping initiative in Ivrit and Limudei Kodesh. Mrs. Masar stands out not only in her passion to teach Tanach, incorporating Ivrit in all Tanach and Judaic Studies, but in her expertise in curriculum planning for all grades, and her commitment to collaborative teaching and learning methods. She has balanced the implementation of a rigorous Ivrit b’Ivrit curriculum with a lively environment for students, incorporating love of Judaism, Israeli culture, and celebrations into learning throughout the school year.


General Studies Principal, Grades 1-8

Dr. Judy Stoner is a native of Baltimore, Maryland. Dr. Stoner is a life-long learner. She earned her B.A. in English from University of Baltimore, her M.A. in Education from The Jewish Theological Seminary of America, and her Doctorate of Education (Ed.D) in Administration and Supervision from Teachers College of Columbia University. Additionally, Dr. Stoner has all but her dissertation for a Ph.D in Contemporary American Literature from American University. Dr. Stoner has three Connecticut certifications: Elementary Education K-6, English 7-12, and Supervision. Dr. Stoner was Head of School of Solomon Schechter Day School of Palm Beach County, FL, Head of School of Martin J. Gottlieb Day School in Jacksonville, FL and Founding Head of School of Bornblum Jewish Community School in Memphis, TN. Dr. Stoner was the Principal of Westchester Torah Academy in New Rochelle, NY and currently works at Yeshiva of Central Queens.  Dr. Stoner is a dual citizen of Israel and the United States. She has two children and currently lives in Ridgefield, CT.


Director of Preschool, Director of Admissions

Mrs. Caroline Wilk grew up and was educated at the Hasmonean School and at university in England. She arrived in the U.S. in 1976 after spending 5 years in Israel working at Hebrew University Hadassah Medical School. She started at Shulamith in 1988 as a teacher and became the Early Childhood Director/ Director of Admissions in 2012.


Director of Student Services

Mrs. Gitty Fleisher has been a part of Shulamith School since 1981 where she began as a sixth grade math and science teacher after receiving her B.A. and M.S. in Education from Brooklyn College. She was instrumental in opening the resource room in 1988, and became principal of the Middle School in 2007 upon receiving certification from C.W. Post – L.I.U. in school administration. Currently, in addition to being in charge of the day to day running of the middle school, and teaching math in grades six and eight, she is Director of Students Services, making sure that all students receive whatever services they need or are entitled to, thereby ensuring their success in school.


Principal | High School

Penina Karp has been the principal of Shulamith High School since 2009. She comes to this position after extensive teaching and administrative experience in the arts and sciences. She has undergraduate and graduate degrees from NYU in Chemistry, Hebrew, and Educational Leadership. She is a research chemist with strong leadership skills and a broad base of knowledge in both general and Judaic studies.


Finance Director

Liz has been with Shulamith since 2012 and we couldn’t be more pleased with her progression within the school. As a Shulamith graduate, Liz came back and joined the team in the business office. With hard work and dedication, she continues to move up within the school. She now holds the Finance Director Position where she keeps our financial records in order and works hand in hand with the Treasurer and Tuition Committee. In addition to her excellent experience here at Shulamith, Liz has over 10 years of work experience with varying responsibilities that make her a perfect fit for this critical role in the school. Liz has a B.S. in Business Management & Finance from Brooklyn College.  Her participation in various projects in Schools and the Banking world give her the skills that will continue to enhance Shulamith’s team's effectiveness and follow through.
